Going Out Tonight!

Pictures by: Jelmer Steenhuis

My beautiful discopants! I really love to wear these pants. It has a tight fit with a high wrist which is very slimming, without moving being impossible. This is caused by the elasticity of the fabric.
At daytime I'm wearing it with a soft and cozy sweater, by night with a simple basic shirt with a wide neckline, so I can let it fall of one of my shoulders. This gives it a more 'Grease' like style. It's a very simple combination with an great impact.

My Precious

The weather in the Netherlands is almost never what you want it to be, so I don't want to talk about the weather. Oops, I already did!
What I really do like about this weather is that I still can keep on wearing my beautiful karen millen coat wich I really love!

The other pieces of my outfit are nothing special, but it always works and looks great.
I really like to wear treggings with a blouse and heels because it always looks well dressed and its very comfortable to wear due to the fact moves easier with you than you would in a tight jeans. When you are not very accustomed with heels, this outfit also looks great with some simple seude leather ballerinas.

Next to some other basic peaces, which you will need to have in you're wardrobe, I always make sure I have a black tregging, a basic blouse and some black heels and ballerinas. Dont be afraid to spend money on the basic pieces, because they're worth every penny. If the quality and fabric are beautiful, you could be using them for years and they will always be useful in a lot of combinations.

Necklease: DIY

The neckless with the pendant is one of my DIY projects. I made it when I was eight years old.
I always kept this one in my collection. Though I never wore it, because I thought it was not good enough for wearing. Recently I rediscovered it and I really like to wear this piece of my own history. Especially because it's in fashion to wear DIY items. Nowadays I realy like to combine white with copper accents. I opened the pendant to see what was inside and found a lovely letter from my mother which she wrote to me at the time. This makes it even more a precious piece of jewellery and more worthwhile to wear.

This is how I made it:

It's made of 2 copper pipes of 2 different sizes so they fit properly on each other.
Out of the biggest pipe I made the lid, the smaller one the tube.
I finished the top of the biggest pipe and the bottom of the smaller pipe by soldering a copper disc to each.
The copper discs I sawed from a larger plate of copper.

The next part was the holding and opening mechanism. So the tubes would stay locked on eachother while wearing it. I fit the top of the tube onto the smaller and longer part. Then I pierced a hole right through the sides. Through the holes I can stab a silver pin. At the end of the pin I fixed a piece of a silver necklace. At the other side I put a earring hold to keep the pin from sliding out. I fixed the other end of the silver necklace piece to the earring hold.

At the last step I pierced two holes on the top of the upper lid so I could fit a silver ring through them. Thanks to the ring I can wear it on a necklace.

Simple Me

Pictures by: Jelmer Steenhuis

Basics are the most important things to have in you're wardrobe.
Preferably of the most beautiful quality and fabrics. Basics are timeless and very important for having a beautiful stable wardrobe with endless combinations. For example when you buy something new and you have just the right basics in your closet that you can easily combine with. Also when you have a lazy day and you don't want to spend too much time on you're outfit, you can still look stylish if you have some good basics. Today is one of those days for me so I just picked some simple tee with a pencil skirt out of my wardrobe. By adding some high heels to the picture it's a ready to wear simple outfit!

Summer Rain

Pictures by: Jelmer Steenhuis

Hello summer where are you? It's still raining!
I absolutely hate all the raincoats that ruin you're style, so I decided to do this DIY project and make a raincoat myself. You can wear it over you're clothes or over the coat you're wearing. It's a simple made coat inspired on a candybag. The body part is made out of one piece of plastic, that I wrapped it all wrinkled around my waist to get the right form. Then I sowed a white ribbon on the folds for more durability. You can close the coat with the push-buttons on the backside. The hood is also removeable thanks to the push-buttons, so you can wear it as a dress. When the coat was ready and I showed it to some friends, they thought it looked alike to the outfits in the videoclip of Robin Thicke - Blurred lines. Well that could be some new inspiration on how to wear!

Yes I did what you think I did

Pictures by: Jelmer Steenhuis

These are boots that I bought when I was sixteen. I still love the beautiful leather and the feel of the shoes. When I pulled them out of the closet again I thought that the tight, heigth of the boots at the upper side of my calves looked vulgair. So it was time to restyle them. Thus I made ancle boots out of them by just cutting off the part above the ancle. I didn't sew anything after cutting. This is because I prefer the look of unworked leather.

Monday Laundry Day

Usually I don't like bright colours, but for this beautiful pin-up style dress I had to make an exception.
It also makes doing the loundry a lot more fun while having that sexy 50's feeling, which I love, and inspires me often.

Shopping Day!

Pictures by: Jelmer Steenhuis

It's still no weather for a real summer outfit, so I made this combination. It's an outfit perfect for a grey summer shopping day.
The coat is a old one, that I bought about 4 or 5 years ago. I'd spend all my money on it and wore it a lot for two years. Afterwards I was done with it. One of the reasons was that I was wearing  a lot of black at the time. I kept it in my closet for a very long time. After all this time this still is a beautiful classic coat, that was realy worth spending my money on. Especially now I can wear it again, because of it's timelessness.
The sweater I'm wearing is from a beautiful mix of silk and cotton. I folded a part of it inward to make it shorter so it would show more off the high wristed pants im wearing.
With the academic style shopper and some sexy open shoes, this oufit is playful with a business like twist.
The shopper is made of beautiful leather. Also it has no silver or gold details which makes it very easy to combine because you don't have to think about the jewelry you're wearing.
The simple design makes it also easy to combine with almost every style.

Pure Silk

Pictures by: Jelmer Steenhuis

My new spring coat. I was looking for a long tailored jacket that I could wear as a spring coat over my clothes. I also wanted to wear it over some fancy party dresses, because the weather in the Netherlands is never quite what you expect. You can wear this over almost every knee length dress, without destroying the style of the dress.
I found this coat in a second hand shop, it was officially a bridal coat. It was a very beautiful ankle length, long coat to wear over a bridal dress. I loved the beautiful lines and the slim-waisted model in the coat and it is made of such pure silk that I had to buy it. I made it shorter so I can wear it as an everyday chic tailored jacket. Today I made a combination with a high waist jeans and a black basic top. I also wear heels, but for an more casual look I like to wear some white, soft, leather, subtile, low sneakers.
The basic top I'm wearing is from Steps. I love their basic tops because it's made of a cotton mix with modal and elastan which stays black better than any other basic tops I've ever tried. Only I wish they made a V-neck because that would make my face look thinner.

Marilyn White

Pictures by: Jelmer steenhuis
I love leather, though with my blond hair en red lipstick I have to be careful. I love feminine lines, but I dont want it to look vulgar. I was looking for a leather skirt for a very long time. Everything I found was either something black, brown or red. This particular one I found on the internet and was a very concervative, long, A-line skirt with pearl buttons. I remodeled it to a feminine skirt with a high split on the backside. I love to combine white with gold, silver and above all copper accents. This time I wanted to have accessories that can add the finishing touch, without being a distraction of the feminine lines. So I painted my neckless white.
